Dr.
Brown is Professor of Theology at The Reformed Theological
Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina.
With C. Everett Koop, M.D., he founded the Christian
Action Council. He
serves as professor of theology and human rights in the
summer program of the Simon Greenleaf School of Law in
Strasbourg, France.
Educated
primarily at Harvard University, where he earned the A.B.,
B.D., Th.M., and Ph.D., he also studied at the Universities
of Marburg, Germany, and Vienna, Austria, on Fullbright and
Danforth fellowships. He
was ordained at Second Congregational Church in Beverly,
Massachusetts. He
has served as theological secretary of the International
Fellowship of Evangelical Students in Lausanne, Switzerland;
as professor of theology at Trinity and at institutions in
Basel, Switzerland, and Yeotmal, India; and as pastor of the
Evangelical-Reformed Church in Klosters, Switzerland. In
1987 he was named to the Forman Chair in Theology and Ethics
at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, a post which he had
until 1998.
Dr.
Brown is a contributing editor to Christianity
Today. He
has written for Human
Life Review, The Times (London), Die
Welt (Hamburg), National Review, Eternity, and the Boston
Herald. In
addition to his most recent work, The
Sensate Culture: Western Civilization Between Chaos and
Transformation, his published books include The
Protest of a Troubled Protestant, Christianity and the Class
Struggle, Death Before Birth, The Reconstruction of the
Republic, and Heresies:
The Image of Christ in the Mirror of Heresy and Orthodoxy
From the Apostles to the Present.
He
and his wife, Grace, have two children and live in
Deerfield, Illinois
