A NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE: THE VALUE OF FAITH AND FAMILY

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Natural Family,

This letter is to let you know that I will officially return to the office on June 14th after an extended illness and near-death experience that began on May 6th.   Complications from a routine appendectomy caused me to be in the hospital for 10 days.   The good news is that it appears that I will now fully recover and not experience any long-term effects (except a few scars).  Thank you so much for your prayers, notes and cards that were such an encouragement to me.  Many prayers were answered.  Truly, I felt the presence and comfort of God during this ordeal.   

My experience has only strengthened my belief and demonstrated the importance of family and faith.  Our work at The Howard Center for Family, Religion and Society and the World Congress of Families is more important than ever in today’s world.    We have exciting plans for this year including events in U.S., Greece, Turkey, Bolivia and Nigeria.   Just this past week, we held a successful WCF Family Values Conference in London  with an incredible group of international speakers http://www.profam.org/. The World Congress of Families (WCF) is an international network of pro-family organizations, scholars, leaders and people of goodwill from more than 60  countries that seek to restore the natural family as the fundamental social unit and the ‘seedbed’ of civil society (as found in the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948).  The WCF was founded in 1997 by Allan Carlson and is a project of The Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society in Rockford, Illinois (www.profam.org).  To date, there have been five World Congresses of Families – Prague (1997), Geneva (1999), Mexico City (2004) and Warsaw, Poland (2007).  The fifth World Congress of Families was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, August 10-12, 2009 (www.worldcongress.nl and www.worldcongress.org).
