KENYA: UP TO THE PEOPLE NOW

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Natural Family,

This is to alert you to an historic opportunity and threat to the natural family.  Just a few days ago, we issued a press release and alerted you to dangerous abortion language contained in the proposed draft of Kenya’s new constitution. (Click here for the press release:  WCF Warns of Attempt to SMUGGLE ABORTION into Kenyan Constitution) Since then, a proposed amendment to delete the abortion language was defeated, and the next day, April 1, the Kenyan Parliament approved the constitution, thereby clearing the way for final approval by the Kenyan people in referendum.

Now we are pleased to provide you with more details from our own Doug Clark, Director of UN Affairs for the Howard Center. Click here to read Clark’s new article, “Kenya: Up to the People Now.

Doug highlights the importance of Kenya’s constitution to Africa and to the world.  He states,  “By pushing the agenda for abortion on demand—or, in United Nations speak, “reproductive health services”—foreign powers are as hostile to the true welfare of Africa as were the imperial powers that carved up the continent a century and a half ago.”

Clark also describes how under the guise of maternal mortality and in contradiction to overwhelming medical evidence, the UN and the US government are advocating for abortion as a method to reduce maternal mortality.  Shockingly, this ideological-driven policy actually would result in the death of more mothers and their babies.  Clark’s article quotes Dr. Byron C. Calhoun (MD, FACOG, FACS, MBA), Professor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at West Virginia University at Charleston:

“The real issue regarding maternal mortality in Africa and other developing countries in maternity care rests in the lack of trained and skilled birth attendants with access to emergency or higher levels of care.  Reproductive rights (translated abortions) is NOT safe, actually has HIGHER rates of maternal mortality when compared by appropriate gestational age controls, is associated with INCREASED risk for breast cancer (in first pregnancies ending in elective abortion), is associated with INCREASED risk for preterm birth by 30-60%, is associated to INCREASED risk for death by all causes, and is associated with significantly INCREASED risk for psychological damage (including suicide and major depression).”

Doug has worked for over eight years to defend the family and life in the United Nations and to encourage and empower policymakers to do likewise. As the highest legal expression of sovereign will, constitutions can be a critical component to resist international pressure, as Doug explains in “The Family in Constitutions Throughout the World.”

We will continue our work to defend the natural family and to promote pro-family language in the Kenyan constitution.  We urge you to pray and contact your elected officials and the United Nations to express your concerns regarding their misguided maternal health policies that are actually endangering women and killing unborn children.

For the World’s Families,

Lawrence D. Jacobs
